Netto

The Netto discount concept is jointly and equally owned in Sweden by ICA AB and Dansk Supermarked. Netto has a clear so-called hard discount profile, offering the market’s lowest food prices. The concept comes originally from Denmark, where Dansk Supermarked manages the chain.

Netto’s stores are based on self-service, rational layout and a limited product range, enabling them to keep price levels low.
The first Swedish Netto store opened in Trelleborg in May 2002, and expansion has been rapid ever since. During 2004, 30 new stores were opened, of which 14 in the Mälardal region. Netto’s establishment in Stockholm attracted a great deal of publicity and was a tremendous success, with long waiting lines outside the entrances.
During 2005, Netto plans to expand its Swedish operations, opening another 20-25 stores in southern Sweden and Mälardalen.
